About Albert J. Dal Canto, MD
Dr. Dal Canto specializes in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist, having completed his residency training at The Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, OH). He then pursued further training with a two year fellowship at West Virginia University (Morgantown, WV). This specialty training culminated in membership into the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), the foremost organization for reconstructive and cosmetic eye surgery. His extensive training and current practice focus on plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, eye socket, and tear drainage system, also known as oculoplastic or oculofacial surgery. His initial training as an ophthalmologist ensures that he never loses sight of the number one function of the eyelids – to protect the eyes. His surgeries focus on providing the best aesthetic outcome for all procedures while also restoring or maintaining eyelid and orbital function. Dr. Dal Canto grew up in Chicago. He went to Washington University in St Louis for a combined M.D., Ph.D. program, during which he published extensively in his research field of Immunology. He subsequently pursued ophthalmology residency and oculoplastics fellowship training as outlined above. He is published in eyelid and orbital disorders. He gives educational seminars to healthcare providers in the community. In 2007, Dr. Dal Canto was able to fulfill his dream of living in the Intermountain West. He joined Intermountain Healthcare as a member of the physician division and has been serving patients in the Salt Lake Valley ever since. Dr. Dal Canto is married with two sons. His brother and parents also live in the Salt Lake region.
