About Dawn A. Wu, DDS
Dr. Dawn Wu’s success. Dr. Wu has been serving patients in the Dallas and Ft. Worth metroplex since 1991. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and her DDS from the Baylor College of Dentistry. She has trained with some of the world’s most prominent family dental specialists, is a member of Global Who’s Who, and has received an America’s Top Dentist designation award since 2005. Dr. Wu has a long list of professional designations and believes in continuing education so her patients can experience the latest techniques in dental care. But she also understands that a successful practice has as much to do with personal relationship as it does with medical knowledge. “When I am working on a patient’s teeth, I realize that it can be an intimidating experience,” she says. “My goal is to build a relationship with every patient where they can trust and feel comfortable with me.” She realizes the appearance of a person’s teeth can greatly affect their self-esteem, so she will always ask if anything about their smile bothers them, and then uses her expert knowledge of cosmetic dentistry to offer a variety of solutions. Dr. Wu emigrated to the U.S. as a Chinese child from Southeast Asia, so she is sensitive to people from varied backgrounds. She and her staff can communicate in a variety of languages, including Cantonese, English, Mandarin, Spanish, and Vietnamese. She says her greatest challenge is convincing many of her patients that they need their teeth checked and cleaned regularly, even if they aren’t hurting. “Many people believe that if their teeth aren’t hurting, then they don’t have a problem,” she says. “Unfortunately, there are many serious dental problems where the patient won’t feel anything until the condition is quite advanced.” Once patients do sit in one of her dental chairs, they’ll find Dr. Wu’s warm personality comforting, along with state-of-the-art equipment and a variety of amenities she supplies to keep them as relaxed as possible, including blankets, headphones, and even sunglasses. When she’s not practicing dentistry, Dr. Wu may be practicing the piano! She is an avid classical pianist (her favorite composer is Chopin). Dr. Wu also enjoys travelling, gardening, and playing tennis. She and her husband, Daniel, have been married for 18 years and have a daughter and son
