About Deirdre M. Rhoad, MD
Dr. Rhoad is one of the few female plastic surgeons in Austin and one of only 9.4% female board certified plastic surgeons (by the American Board of Plastic Surgery) in the United States. She is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Rhoad is the third of four sisters. An Air Force “angel”, she lived as far north as Newfoundland where she was born on a military base, and as far south as Panama where she began learning Spanish. Dr. Rhoad attended high school in Houston, moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, and attended medical school in Galveston at the University of Texas Medical Branch to pursue a career in surgery. After three years of training in general surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City, Dr. Rhoad received fellowship training in burn surgery and a resident training in plastic surgery at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She spent two months receiving coveted training with renowned plastic surgeons Drs. Daniel Baker, Sherell Aston, Gerald Pitman, and many others at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Although offered cosmetic surgery fellowship training at MEETH, she pursued private practice of plastic surgery in the city that held her heart, Austin, Texas.
