About James H. Kern, MD
James H. Kern, M.D. is Director of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine at The Image Enhancement Center in Houston, Texas. He is also Medical Director and Gynecological Surgeon at Total Woman’s Healthcare in Houston, Texas. Dr. Kern has been a surgeon for nearly 30 years, and continues to perform surgery at Cypress Fairbanks Hospital. He is one of the first surgeons in Houston and Southeast Texas to perform minimally-invasive Laser Assisted Tumescent Liposuction at the time of the technique’s FDA Approval in 2008. Dr. Kern has also expanded his training and expertise to include facial rejuvenation with dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse and Belotero Balance. He has additional advanced training in fractionated laser skin rejuvenation. He combines his love of surgery with current techniques in skin and body rejuvenation. He also works to enhance the health and well-being of men and women with natural skin treatments using PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), Hormone Replacement Therapy and Medically Supervised Weight Loss programs. As a clinician, Dr. Kern has participated in a major stem cell study. He was the lead Houston area research physician in the four-year Independent Review Board supervised study, which also included three other physician investigators. Other study centers for this stem cell research program included Tulane University in New Orleans as well as hospitals in Germany. Dr. Kern has been a guest on several television and radio programs, speaking about Laser Liposuction, Facial Rejuvenation, and Wellness for men and women. He most recently appeared in July of 2016 with one of his Hormone Replacement Therapy patients on the Great Day Houston morning talk show on KHOU Television. Dr. Kern believes strongly in sharing his belief that anyone can look great and feel great with proper professional medical guidance, expertise and encouragement. Dr. Kern was raised in Houston, Texas where he earned his BA in Biology from the University of St. Thomas. He did his clinical training at Misericordia Hospital at New York Medical College in Bronx, New York after graduating from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara Medical School in Jalisco, Mexico. Following his internship at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Kern returned to Houston for his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Joseph Hospital. He is speaks fluently in Spanish and English. Aside from attending numerous Medical and Surgical Education conferences across the U.S., Dr. Kern enjoys spending time with his wife, two rescue dogs, a couple of horses and numerous cattle at his ranch in Washington County, Texas.
