About James Poyak, DDS
Dr. Poyak was born and grew up near Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry, and then served in the US Navy as a dentist while stationed at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After leaving the Navy, he and his wife, Susan, moved to New Hampshire where he started his own practice. In 1985, his family relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona. Outside of the office, Dr. Poyak is an avid scuba diver and wishes that Arizona was on the ocean. He and his wife also love spending time with their horses and they are both highly involved with their church and have traveled several times to Jamaica and Haiti to provide dental care those neeeding help and to help establish a water filtration program in Haiti in the remote villages. Dr. Poyak has become a continual student for advanced knowledge and skills in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, as well as orthodontics. He has achieved his diplomate in the International Association for Orthodontics. In addition, he is also past president for the International Association for Orthodontics. He also received training in endodontics (root canal therapy) at Harvard University while living in New Hampshire. He has been actively involved and has served as past president at his local dental society, has participated as a member of ethics and peer review committees, and served as a consultant to the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners for 17 years. Dr. Poyak is a continual student who is committed to studying the latest technological and procedural developments in cosmetic and restorative dentistry and orthodontics. He has studied at The Pankey Institute and Dawson Center, and the Spear Institute, three of the top postgraduate institutions worldwide.
