About Maria R. Cordisco, MD
Dr. Maria Cordisco comes to UR Medicine treating common skin diseases in children in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for more than 30 years. In addition to her pediatric dermatology practice, she developed significant expertise in vascular anomalies in infancy: strawberry birthmarks (hemangiomas), port wine stains, and other malformations that can affect blood vessels. Dr. Cordisco treats all kinds of skin disease found in children, including eczema/atopic dermatitis, acne, and bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Her expertise extends to more complex disorders, including genetic disease and systemic illnesses that manifest as skin issues. A graduate of the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine, Dr. Cordisco completed her internship in pediatrics at Hospital Nacional Prof. Dr. Alejandro Posadas in Buenos Aires, and her residency at Hospital Torcuato de Alvear. She followed these with a post-doctoral fellowship in dermatology at Children's Hospital Dr. Ricardo Gutierrez. Research by Dr. Cordisco and her colleagues has been published in international journals including the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, Human Mutation, The American Journal of Cardiology, Stroke, Pediatric Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and a number of others. She is an active member of the Latin American Society for Pediatric Dermatology, the American Society for Pediatric Dermatology, and the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies. When not in the office, Dr. Cordisco enjoys traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and friends, as well as kayaking and rowing in the Adirondacks.
