About Michael Wierenga, DDS
Dr. Wierenga is a graduate of the University of Michigan for both his undergraduate studies and for dental school. During his undergraduate years, he was involved in clinical research, tutoring other students in subjects such as chemistry and biology, and also volunteered his time weekly at a local dental clinic that provided care to the underserved community. He received his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2008 and DDS degree four years later in 2012. Dr. Wierenga graduated in the top two of his dental school class and was an active member of the Xi Psi Phi Dental Society and Christian Medical and Dental Association. He joined practice with Dr. Doublestein shortly after graduation. Currently, Dr. Wierenga is an active member in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and West Michigan District Dental Society. He is passionate about continued learning and has sought extensive continuing education, including focused study and training in Invisalign, soft tissue laser treatment, occlusion, and complex tooth and implant restorations, including cosmetic dentistry and full-mouth reconstruction. His talents in areas of technology and digital dentistry have improved our ability to educate our patients and improve the quality of their care. Dr. Wierenga has completed the entire curriculum at the L.D. Pankey Institute, one of the nation’s most renowned centers for advanced learning for dentistry, clinical skills, and patient care. Dr. Wierenga is also active in a study club of doctors who share Dr. Wierenga’s passion for excellence and quality care. Dr. Wierenga is from West Michigan originally, having grown up in the Cutlerville area. He is a graduate of South Christian High School, where he played football and basketball and was a member of the 2002 state championship football team. Dr. Wierenga currently resides in Byron Center with his wife Rachel and three daughters Hattie, Winnie, and Poppy. As a family they enjoy biking, spending time outdoors, and exploring the many museums and activities Grand Rapids has to offer. He is actively involved in his local community and church, where he volunteers his time mentoring a group of middle-school children. From his eight years spent living in Ann Arbor, Dr. Wierenga developed a passion for Michigan sports teams and is a big fan of the football and basketball teams.
