About Regina M. Fearmonti, MD
Dr. Regina M. Fearmonti is a microvascular fellowship-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a background as a breast surgical oncologist. She is board certified through the American Board of Surgery as well as the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She practices through Fearmonti Plastic Surgery with privileges in hospitals throughout New Braunfels and San Antonio’s South Texas Medical Center and has been serving patients in South Texas since September 2012. She received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and her medical degree from Loyola University-Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. She moved to Houston, Texas to complete training in general surgery at the distinguished Baylor College of Medicine. Because of her deep interest in treating women with breast cancer, she completed fellowship training in breast surgical oncology at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. In the clinical and research setting she learned the most innovative techniques in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Passionate about the global care of the breast cancer patient, she completed her second residency at Duke University in plastic and reconstructive surgery. She then returned home to Texas and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to complete a year-long fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery. During her years in surgical training, Dr. Fearmonti has trained with leading oncologic and reconstructive surgeons from around the country, developing and improving upon techniques to help minimize the sequelae of breast cancer and breast deformities and restore a woman’s “femininity”. She offers advanced surgical techniques using autologous tissue flaps to create a natural-appearing breast. She specializes in muscle-preserving perforator flaps (DIEA flap, SIEA flap, SGAP flap, TUG flap, and TAP flap) and advanced implant and latissimus dorsi flap-based reconstructions. She is one of a handful of surgeons who are performing innovative surgery to improve the symptoms of lymphedema. Lymphovenous bypass and free vascularized lymph node transfer are just two of the procedures that she offers to these patients. With fellowship training in both breast surgical oncology and reconstructive microsurgery, Dr. Fearmonti is uniquely qualified and dedicated to providing state-of-the-art breast reconstruction in a caring and supportive environment to enable each patient to complete breast restoration following her breast cancer treatment. She enjoys educating patients and giving them hope as they complete their journey to renewal. She feels that a productive consultation is paramount to tailoring every patient’s distinct surgical plan. In addition to her breast renewal surgery, she is interested in all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including management of malignant melanoma, aesthetic and complex reconstructive surgery of the face, trunk and extremities for both men and women, surgery for gynecomastia, and she has a special interest in body contouring following massive weight loss and wound care.
