About Shilpa G. Hamman, MD
I was raised in San Diego and went to Torrey Pines High School. Go Falcons! I completed my undergraduate training at UC San Diego and majored in mammalian physiology and neuroscience. I then completed medical school at UC Irvine, graduating with Distinction in Clinical Research and as a member of the Alpha Omega Honors Society. While in medical school, I researched biologic treatments for psoriasis and developed a passion for dermatology . I then completed four years of residency training in dermatology at UC San Diego. I enjoy traveling andserving those less fortunate abroad. I've worked in an urgent clinic in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and as a volunteer dermatologist in Botswana, Africa. I have a special interest in skin of color, and completed a mentorship in skin of color at Northwestern University in Chicago. I am the president of the San Diego Dermatological Society, and have published research papers in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology . Dermatology is a very unique and special opportunity to connect with people. I believe our skin is the most important organ and is vital to our overall well-being and mental health. Preventative measures to protect our skin, as well as early detection of skin cancer, are vitally important. I thrive by staying very physically active. Staying fit is the key to staying happy. I love mountain biking, road biking, running, Pilates, skiiing, and snowboarding at Snowbird, UT. I also love to sing while my husband plays the piano. Every year we hold a holiday concert at our house and we take requests.
